RECENT ADVANCEMENT IN CIVIL ENGINEERING & INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT
RACE-InD 2011

Department of Civil Engineering, Jaypee University of Engineering & Technology, Guna, MP, recently concluded a national level conference on Recent Advancements in Civil Engineering & Infrastructure Development (RACE-InD 2011) during 21, 22 Dec, 2011. The conference was organized in association with Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi, Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS – Indore Chapter) as well as ICI – North India chapter. The first bulletin of the conference was released during May, 2011, and, it was distributed, through emails, to all the engineering institutions (running Civil Engineering courses) in India as well as some engineering institutions in abroad. In due course, 84 abstracts were received and finally 54 full length papers were submitted to the conference. The papers were received from different fields of Civil engineering, such as, Structure, Geotechnical, Transportation, Environmental, Hydraulics & Water resources etc.
The conference brought together about 30 participants from different part of the country including 9 faculty members of the Civil Engineering Department of JUET, Guna. MP and 2 faculty members from Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, HP to share their experiences, to learn from one another and to debate the future developments of Civil Engineering and Infrastructure in India. The conference was structured with 1 conference lecture and 5 technical sessions, each comprising of one technical/keynote lecture from eminent personality from academics or from field, and 6 presentations as well as lab visits of Civil Engineering Department of JUET. Dr. N. K. Samaiya and Dr. Amit Srivastava, Organizing Secretaries, along with other faculty and staff looked after the various committees of the conference.
This conference was a key activity for Department of Civil Engineering, both as the first of its national level conference and as an introduction of this new and growing network of professionals interested in Civil and Infrastructure development of the country. It also helped to look deep into the existing scenario, future prospects, practical difficulties and plausible solutions in overcoming those difficulties. The conference provided a common platform for all the participants to learn from the diversity of experience that were brought to the conference. The conference was attended by a wide range of participants: researchers, practitioners, educators and others interested into their work and policies related to Civil Engineering and Infrastructure development of this country.
The management of JUET had given a whole hearted support to make RACE-InD 2011 a great success. The faculty and staff of JUET rendered all assistance for the successful conduct of this conference.
