Dr. Ghanshyam Singh earned his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Barkatullah University, Bhopal, followed by a Master’s and Ph.D. from the Thermodynamics and Combustion Engineering Lab at IIT Madras in 2004. His core research interests include Experimental and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Heat Transfer, Combustion & Gasification, and Jet Mixing and Control.
Professional Experience:
Dr. Singh began his professional career in December 2001 at General Electric (GE), Bangalore. During his seven-year tenure within the Advanced Combustion Engineering Group, he focused on gas turbine engines for both aircraft and power systems. In this role, he led the development of CFD analysis processes for gas turbine combustors and mentored team members in advanced modeling techniques, including turbulence, heat transfer, fuel spray, and combustion simulation.
In November 2008, he joined Thermax Ltd., Pune, as a Principal Scientist. He was instrumental in identifying and exploring new business avenues in Combustion, Gasification, Heat Transfer, and Wind Energy. Notably, he established an international consortium under the European Commission’s FP7 program to optimize gasification technology for high-ash Indian coal. He also spearheaded biomass gasification projects, transitioning them toward becoming full-fledged business units. Throughout this period, he collaborated closely with national and international bodies, including the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands (ECN), IIT Madras, and the MNRE, focusing on technology transfer, scaling, and funding.
Academic Leadership:
Driven by a passion for education, Dr. Singh transitioned into academia after serving as a visiting faculty member at the School of Energy Studies, University of Pune. Following a tenure at the startup Agni Bio Power, where he explored biomass processing and utilization, he took on several leadership roles:
Director, MPCT Gwalior.
Head of Mechanical Engineering, ITM University, Gwalior, and MVN University, Palwal.
Professor and Dean (Student Welfare), Jaypee University, Anoopshahr (Joined 2015).
In January 2020, he was transferred to Jaypee University of Engineering and Technology (JUET), Guna, where he continues to contribute his extensive industrial and academic expertise. He has a total of 29 years of industrial, research, and teaching experience.
